8 weeks and counting

We have had such a great spring break this past week. It has been totally relaxing and fun. I have gotten to sleep in which I LOVE and Hunny can't stand! But I did it and didn't feel guilty. We have also gotten to catch up with some friends, which is another thing that I love. We went to our friend Doug and Sherrie's house for dinner on Thursday night, and had such a blast. We of course stayed way to late ( I think we got home about 11:45!) But we enjoyed every minute of it.

We also got to spend time with Tancy and JP. JP got us hooked on some video games. And we had a blast doing that. I think I am deaf though.

Anyway, I am not really wanting to go back to school tomorrow, but alas I will go. Tancy is starting another phase of construction on her house, and I would much rather be over there helping her during the days. But we only have about 8 weeks left so I think I can handle it. Although I don't think there are any days off between now and May 24th. 8 weeks and counting, I can handle it. I think.

insert great title here

After church sunday night, a group of us went out to dinner and here are some pictures of our crazy group! We had a lot of fun and had so many people that we covered 1 section of Wendy's.

I think 1 of the things that I love most about our church is that we get together and fellowship after services.

Excuse the 1 of me and Hunny, I look like I'm on crack. It's just a bad picture. And I honestly tried to flip the 1 of the girls table, but for some reason it doesn't want to flip. So I'm sorry if you get a crick in your neck.

beyond measure

After church on Sunday, I had a few of my friends come up to me and ask if I had saw the big present sitting on the table for me. I hadn't since I slipped out a side door of the auditorium. I of course went and found the present. And when I opened it, there was another set of knives!!!!! Can you believe it?? The people in our church are absolutly amazing!! I am blessed beyond measure by the friendships that have come my way.

I know who gave me the 2nd set, but I still don't know who gave me the 1st. And that is ok with me. I just hope they know how amazing they are to me! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Your guys kindness has touched me more then you know!

Easter

I can remember 1 valentines day when I came home from school she had the whole kitchen decorated for valentines day. There was a red table cloth on the table, and white place mate, with her best china out on the table. She had made these valentine hearts out of construction paper with white doilies on them. I remember thinking how beautiful it was. And in turn I remember thinking how special we were to her. She took the time to do this for us.

My parents have never been blessed with much money. But 1 thing my mom did was she made sure that all 6 of us had a new outfit for Christmas and Easter. She really tried, and still tries to make the holidays the best that she can. I really remember our Easter outfits. I remember her packing all of us girls into the van and driving the hour to the mall and spending most of a Sat. finding the perfect dress and shoes and gloves and hats, and a lot of times even a slip and underwear. She would spend time with each 1 of us girls trying to find the right outfit and matching it to the shoes. She took the time with each 1 of us to make sure it was perfect. I remember the fun we would have. Sometimes it was stressful b/c mother and daughter would have different opinions of what was modest and beautiful, but in the end, everyone was always happy. And she wouldn't stop there. She would then spend the Sat before Easter preparing a fabulous Easter feast. She would make pies, and cookies. She would spend that evening ironing all our clothes, and making sure our hair was all done up in sponge curlers. (remember those??) She would paint our toenails and fingernails. It was great times I remember with my mom and sisters.

As I grow older and now have my own daughter, I find it so important to do this same thing for her. I want her to feel special and beautiful. And I know that she does. When she saw her dress today, her eyes lit up and it literally took her breath away. I love that!! She wanted to try it on, and when she did, she pranced around and did twirls and she felt so proud of that dress! She tried her shoes on, and enjoyed walking around the house in them.

So as tomorrow comes, I can't wait to see Brother in his new suit and Dada in her new fancy dress. I can't wait to head off to church and watch them feel beautiful. To me, that is part of Easter. You can call it frivolous and vain if you want. But to me the new fancy clothes are actually a great memory that I have of my family. And it is a tradition that I will pass on to my kids.

A cut above

Let me preface this by saying that I have never had a great set of knives. I think I literally bought our knives at the grocery store in Byron for about $6.

So last week I was cutting and peeling potatoes. I was making those fry things that you can cook on the grill. Yum!! Anyway, while I was attempting to cut the potatoes, I was really frustrated b/c my knife was so dull and crappy that my hand was literally red from putting so much pressure of the stupid knife. I almost cut myself a gazillion times. In walks hubby right in the middle of my fight with my knife. So I lovingly say to him, that I don't care when he gets me some new knives, Christmas, my b-day, our anniversary, I just really need some new knives. He proceedes to tell me that my knives are fine, and (I'm paraphrasing here) he tells me that how dare I ask him for something when I know full and well that he isn't working and I know we don't have the money. I of course end in tears b/c I know that I didn't ask him for the knives any day soon, it was just an idea for future gift buying reference.

Fast forward to Sat afternoon at my friend Melissa's wedding shower. She got this beautiful set of Chicago Cutlery knives, which I will admit I was pretty jealous over. And I told my story about Hunny and the knives.

Fast forward to last night after church. Someone bought me a beautiful set of knives!!!!! I was astounded!! It's a 23 piece set of knives. It's got steak knives, a paring knife, a chef's knife, a boning knife, and other ones I can't really think of. But let me tell you, I felt so blessed! I could not believe that someone did that for me. So whoever you are, if you are reading my blog, I just want you to know how thankful I am for those knives. It meant so much to me!!
